Biographical Information[edit]
Min-Shih Chen pitched in the minors and in the CPBL and was on the Taiwanese national team.
Chen hit .318/.348/.364 for Taiwan in the 2008 Haarlem Baseball Week, starting in left; only Chih-Pei Huang had a better average for the team. [1] Moving to the mound, he hit 95.7 mph on the radar gun, drawing interest from MLB scouts. [2] He was signed by Seattle Mariners scouts Jamey Storvick, Sam Kao and Pat Kelly. [3]
He was 5-4 with a 6.08 ERA for the 2011 AZL Mariners. He tied for fifth in the Arizona League in wins and tied for sixth in losses. He went 2-0 with a save and a 6.07 ERA for the '12 Pulaski Mariners. He had a 2-2, 2.78 record and two saves for the Everett AquaSox in 2013, becoming a full-time reliever. With the Adelaide Bite in the 2013-2014 Australian Baseball League, he allowed three runs (two earned) in ten innings, fanning twelve. He was 2-6 with a save and a 8.03 ERA for the High Desert Mavericks in 2014. He finished his US career at 11-12, 6.29 in 82 games.
Out of the M's chain, he was a 8th-round pick of the Lamigo Monkeys in the 2015 CPBL Draft. [4] He allowed two runs in one inning in 2015 and pitched a shutout inning in 2016 while also batting sometimes (.208/.240/.333). In 2017, he gave up 6 runs (3 earned) in 6 innings. He had a 3.68 ERA in seven games in 2018. He had a 4.70 ERA in four CPBL seasons.
Leaving the CPBL, he became a full-time outfielder again and won a home run title in the spring of 2019. [5] That earned him a spot on Taiwan's squad for the 2019 Asian Championship. He was 0 for 7 with two runs. He sat out the Gold Medal Game win over Japan as Tzu-Wei Lin played left and Chih-Yu Tsai manned center. [6]
