Biographical Information

Chih-Pei Huang played in the Chinese Professional Baseball League for 6 years.

Huang hit .360/.407/.480 for Taiwan in the 2008 Haarlem Baseball Week, leading the team in average, runs (7) and RBI (5). He was Taiwan's 1B in the 2008 World University Championship, going just 3 for 31 with a walk, run, four RBI and 12 whiffs, while fielding .989. Two of the three hits came against Lithuania. He was 3 for 24 with five walks in the 2010 Haarlem Baseball Week. In the 2010 World University Championship, he batted .444 and slugged .815. He tied for the team lead in runs (9) and drove in 11, 4th-best in the event behind Cubans Yoenis Céspedes, José Dariel Abreu and Alfredo Despaigne. The Sinon Bulls took him with the third pick of the 2010 CPBL Draft, the first amateur chosen; he followed Yung-Chi Chen and Yen-Wen Kuo, who were coming over from the US minors.

The Taitung native made his pro debut in 2011. He hit .302 in the minors for the Bulls and stole 20 bases. He batted .345/.375/.414 with 7 runs and 8 RBI in 7 games in the 2011 World Port Tournament. He tied Han Lin and Rusney Castillo for second in runs, was 10th in average, tied Simon Gühring for the most steals (4) and tied for the most RBI. He came up big in the title game against Cuba, singling in the winning run in the 11th inning against Yadier Pedroso. In the 2011 Baseball World Cup, he went 4 for 19 with a homer as Taiwan's main first baseman; the long ball came off Panama's Gilberto Méndez in a loss to the host nation.

He also played in the CPBL proper, debuting on March 18 and singling off Ken Ray for his first hit. He hit .220/.254/.305 and played error-free defense, primarily at third base, in a backup role. Huang only played 30 games with a .225/.303/.281 batting line in 2013, then his season ended due to a serious waist injury. He still couldn't adapt to pro baseball, and he hit .245/.259/.245 in 2014 and .247/.276/.419 in 2015. Huang only played 20 games combined in the next two seasons, and he was released.

Overall, Huang hit .225/.262/.315 with 78 hits in 6 seasons in the CPBL.
