Biographical Information[edit]

Miguel Neira has pitched in Cuba and for the Cuban national team.

Neira debuted in the 2021-2022 Serie Nacional postseason, allowing a hit to the only batter he faced for the Gallos de Sancti Spíritus at age 18. [1] He did not make his regular season debut until 2023, when he had a 1-5, 6.31 record (0-1, 12.46 in the postseason). [2] He still somehow made Cuba's team for the 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games; he was easily their youngest player, three years younger than Andrys Pérez. In his debut, the southpaw relieved Javier Mirabal in the 6th with a 2-0 deficit, one on and no outs against title-bound Mexico. He retired Moisés Gutiérrez on a sacrifice bunt, the only batter he retired in the event. He intentionally walked Jasson Atondo then allowed a RBI single to Emmanuel Ávila, the run being charged to Mirabal. Yeudis Reyes took over and escaped further damage. His other appearance was even shorter, this time truly as a LOOGY. Replacing Mirabal in the 5th with a 3-3 tie against Puerto Rico, one on and one out, he walked Rubén Castro then gave way to Franky Quintana. Cuba won Silver. [3]

That winter, he defected from Cuba. [4]
