Biographical Information[edit]

Miguel Gonzalez played five games in the majors with the Chicago White Sox in 2013.

Gonzalez was signed by White Sox scout Amador Arias in June 2008. He split the summer between the DSL White Sox 1 (1 for 2, 2B) and DSL White Sox 2 (.291/.388/.369 in 43 G), throwing out 43% of runners who tried to steal. In 2009, he hit .311/.385/.503 with 15 doubles in 45 games for the Bristol Sox and gunned down 34.9% of attempted base-stealers, second-best in the Appalachian League. He was also 2 for 11 for the Charlotte Knights. He was 9th in the Appy League in doubles. In the winter, he was 1 for 4 for the Tiburones de la Guaira in the Venezuelan League playoffs.

In 2010, he hit just .218/.260/.276 for the Kannapolis Intimidators but gunned down half of the runners who tried to steal, the second-best rate in the South Atlantic League. Returning to Kannapolis in 2011, he hit better (.255/.324/.326) but didn't catch as many base-stealers (33%). In 2012, he appeared for the Winston-Salem Dash (.247/.303/.321 in 50 G) and Birmingham Barons (.214/.295/.229 in 22 G), throwing out 40% of those who tried to steal. He hit .273/.367/.351 for the Tiburones in the winter. He opened 2013 with Birmingham (.244/.318/.353 in 37 G) then moved up to Charlotte (.280/.345/.340 in 16 G).

A September call-up to the White Sox in 2013, Miguel replaced Josh Phegley late in a blowout loss in his debut on September 10th and grounded out against Rick Porcello his lone trip up. Two days later, he again entered in a similar role and singled off Josh Tomlin for his first MLB hit. He finished the season 2 for 9 in the majors.

In 2021, he succeeded Mark Salas as bullpen catcher with the White Sox.
