Biographical Information

Amador Arias peaked at the level his initials spell out - AAA. He later scouted.

Arias made his pro debut with the 1990 GCL Reds, hitting .254/.312/.323 with 25 steals in 31 tries and 46 runs in 61 games. He led Gulf Coast League second basemen in putouts (116), assists (158) and double plays (36) while tying Domingo Mota for the GCL lead in runs. He also tied for second in steals, 15 behind leader Dave Lowery. He did not make the league All-Star team as Claudio Ozoria was picked instead. He split 1991 between the Erie Sailors (.230/.291/.350 in 52 G) and Cedar Rapids Reds (.186/.250/.220 in 21 G). In his Venezuelan League debut that winter, he went 0 for 1 with a steal and a run in four games for the Navegantes del Magallanes.

Amador was a utility man for the 1992 Charleston Wheelers, batting .242/.286/.268 in 58 games, with no hit further than a double. He was 1 for 9 for Magallanes in the winter, then split 1993 between the Winston-Salem Spirits (.263/.289/.279 in 58 G) and Chattanooga Lookouts (.215/.261/.262 in 18 G). He went 5 for 25 with a triple in 1993-1994, his most action in a Venezuelan League campaign. In the summer of '94, he hit .238/.282/.306 as a backup infielder for Winston-Salem. In '94-'95, he was 0 for 8 for the Navegantes.

In 1995, Arias played for the Lookouts (.222/.263/.269 in 71 G) and Indianapolis Indians (a surprising 6 for 15 with two walks). He went 0 for 7 for the 1995-1996 Tigres de Aragua then ended his career with a fairly productive 1996. That year, he played one game apiece for the Lookouts (0 for 1) and Indians (0 for 3) and batted .288/.357/.418 with 10 homers and 30 steals in 40 tries for the Winston-Salem Warthogs. He tied Elvis Pena for 5th in the Carolina League in stolen bases and missed the top 10 in average by .005.

In 537 minor league games, Arias had produced at a .252/.305/.327 clip with 99 steals in 144 tries over 537 games. He fielded .952 at 2B and .917 at SS, his two primary positions. He was only 7 for 47 in his native Venezuela.

Arias was a coach for the Billings Mustangs in 1997 and Charleston Alley Cats in 1998. He then scouted for the Anaheim Angels and Chicago White Sox, signing Alberto Callaspo, Darwin Perez, Angel Castillo, Amalio Diaz, Eduardo Escobar, Miguel Gonzalez, Gregory Infante, José Martínez, Jeffer Patiño and Carlos Sanchez.
