Biographical Information[edit]
Pitcher Greg Infante played 5 games in the majors for the Chicago White Sox in 2010, then came back with the same team to pitch a full season in 2017.
Signed by scout Amador Arias for the White Sox in 2006, Infante spent that season playing in the Venezuelan Summer League. Coming stateside in 2007, he went 2-3 with a 4.01 ERA in 10 games for the Bristol White Sox. He began the next summer with the Kannapolis Intimidators, going 1-2 with a 6.59 ERA in 4 outings before returning to Bristol. He then went 4-3 with a 2.66 ERA in 13 appearances for the club.
Infante was back with Kannapolis in 2009, going 3-5 with a 3.26 ERA in 15 starts. In early July, he joined the Winston-Salem Dash, for whom he was 1-2 with a 7.84 ERA in 6 games, despite missing about a month with finger injury. He was moved to the bullpen in 2010, starting the year back with the Dash. After going 1-2 with a 3.48 ERA and 9 saves for Winston-Salem, he was promoted in late June to the AA Birmingham Barons, going 2-2 with a 3.42 ERA and 3 saves at that level. He then earned a September call-up to Chicago, and he made his big league debut against the Detroit Tigers on September 8th. Entering the game in the bottom of the 8th, he walked Austin Jackson, the first batter he faced, but did not allow a run in two-thirds of an inning. Overall, in 5 relief appearances for the Sox that year, he did not give up any runs and struck out 5.
Back with the Barons to start 2011, Infante went 2-0 with 7 saves in a dozen appearances and did not allow an earned run. In mid-May, he moved up to the AAA Charlotte Knights and was 1-4 with a 3.35 ERA and 4 saves in 34 games there. He posted a 4-1 record and 3.66 ERA in 20 outings for Charlotte in 2012 (also making one appearance for AA Birmingham) but was released by the White Sox at the end of August.
He returned to the majors in 2017 after not playing there since 2010, making 52 relief appearances for the Chicago White Sox and going 2-1 with a 3.13 ERA.
Infante is the brother-in-law of Freddy Garcia, having married Garcia's sister Elizabeth.
