Biographical Information[edit]

Matija Sertić has played on the Croatian national team.

Sertić was 2 for 11 with two runs, two RBI and two steals in the 2012 European Junior Championship Qualifier. [1] He made it to the senior national team for the 2014 European Championship. The teenager pitched one game, in a mismatch with champion the Netherlands. He relieved Dejan Marin with two outs in the first and a 8-0 deficit. Nick Urbanus greeted him with a single but he retired Curt Smith on a grounder. In the 2nd, though, he was knocked about for eight runs, including three-run shots by Sharlon Schoop and Gianison Boekhoudt. He started the 3rd by walking Schoop and Danny Rombley but Hainley Statia hit into a force and Urbanus hit into a double play. Darko Kvaternik relieved in the 4th of what wound up a 19-2, mercy rule loss. He did not have Croatia's highest ERA in the 2014 Euros as his 30.86 was better than Aleksandar Kruhek and Marin. [2]

In the 2015 B-Level European Championship, he did not pitch as Croatia swept the field to keep their spot in the European Championship but he did play one game as a position player (1 for 5, R). [3] He played for Olimpija Karlovac in the 2016 CEB Cup, going 1 for 9 with two walks, two runs and a steal but making four errors in nine chances. He lost to the Barracudas Montpellier, going 0-1 with a 7.50 ERA. [4] He was on Karlovac's team for the 2019 Federations Cup but did not play. [5]

A teammate has been Nikola Sertić; it is unclear if they are related.
