Biographical Information[edit]

Marco Limacher has been on the Swiss national team.

He was 1-for-1 with a HBP and a run as a backup DH for Switzerland in the 2011 European Championship Qualifier. [1] Backing up Rafael Eigenmann at catcher in the 2017 B-Level European Championship, he singled in his lone plate appearance, versus Serbia. [2] He was 2 for 3 with two walks, two runs and three RBI in the 2021 European Championship Qualifier, playing third base against Turkey. [3] During the 2022 European Championship Qualifier, he was 0 for 3 in his lone game at the hot corner. Switzerland won a spot in the 2023 European Championship. [4]

In the 2023 Federations Cup, he was 1 for 9 with a hit-by-pitch and two runs for the Zürich Challengers. [5] In the Ligue Nationale A that year, he batted .306/.469/.469 with 16 runs in 17 games. [6] He made Swiss' team for the 2023 European Championship, their first European Championship. Interestingly, both of his appearances were on the mound (he had been 2-1 with a 1.43 ERA in limited work there for the '23 Challengers). Against Israel, he relieved Simon Steffen to close out a 14-1 mercy rule loss in the 6th. He was the top Swiss hurler of the day, with a shutout inning. Nadav Machlin grounded out, Ryan Lavarnway was plunked and Benny Wanger doubled. He hit Assaf Lowengart to load them up but got Zev Moore to hit into an inning-ending double play. He also closed out a 15-5 loss to Germany, the last of ten hurlers they tried. Succeeding Hideori Oshima, he allowed a Vincent Ahrens double then retired Shawn Larry. He walked Simon Bäumer and Yannic Walther then a David Grimes sac fly made it 14-4. A wild pitch scored Germany's last run of the day then he got David Dinski to fly out. [7]
