Biographical Information

Lukáš Ercoli has pitched in the Extraliga and for the Czech national team.

Ercoli was 0-2 with a 6.00 ERA in the 2012 World Junior Championship, losing to Taiwan and Japan. debuted with Kotlářka Praha in 2013, going 2-0 with a 1.50 ERA in 12 innings. In the 2013 European Junior Championship, he was 1-1 with a 5.40 ERA, beating Russia but losing the title game to Italy. He allowed eight runs (five earned) in 5 1/3 IP in the 2013 World Junior Championship.

The lefty was 1-4 with a 5.06 ERA in a sophomore slump. He allowed seven runs (four earned) in 3 1/3 IP in the 2014 European Cup. In the 2014 U-21 Baseball World Cup, he had a 3.38 ERA and 14 K in 10 2/3 IP. He was 6th in whiffs, between Soo-min Lee and Ki-jun Kim. He improved to 7-1, 4.52 in 2015, tying Bradley Merritt for 7th in wins. He was the top alternate for the Czech team in the 2016 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers but was not activated. In '16, he faded to 3-3, 6.88. He did not appear for Kotlářka Praha in the 2016 European Cup. In the 2016 U-23 Baseball World Cup, he was 0-2 with a 4.66 ERA, losing to South Korea and Taiwan.

The Roudnice native had a 0-3, 6.21 record in the 2017 Extraliga. He pitched two shutout innings in the 2017 U-23 European Championship. During 2018, he was 1-3 with a 5.49 ERA but fanned 50 in 42 2/3 IP to finish third in the league in K rate. He beat Chun-Pang Yuen and Hong Kong in the 2018 World University Championship. In the 2018 U-23 Baseball World Cup, he allowed four runs (three earned) in one inning.

The 23-year-old was 0-4 with a 4.04 ERA in 2019. He was 6-2 with a save and a 2.61 ERA in 2020, making leaderboards in ERA (6th, between Filip Čapka and David Nevěřil), WHIP (1.05, 5th, between Ondřej Satoria and Čapka), K:BB ratio (2.5:1, 9th, between Marek Minařík and Ondřej Furko), whiffs (57, 10th) and wins (tied Jan Kucin for 6th). In '21, he was 2-3 with a 3.67 ERA. The next year, he moved to Hroši Brno and posted a 7-2, 2.29 mark with 104 K in 98 1/3 IP. He was 5th in the league in ERA (between Ryan Johnson and Boris Bokaj), 4th in WHIP (1.04, between Ethan Skuija and Johnson), 5th in K:BB ratio (4.3:1, between Tomáš Duffek and former major leaguer Juan Jaime), tied Jaime for third in whiffs and tied for third in wins (behind Čapka and Jaime).

He was the Czech team's media officer for the 2022 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers but wound up as a late roster addition. Not only that, but he came up huge in his first appearance for the national team (obviously, he had represented the Czechs in age-based events in the past, as listed above, but not for the main national team). He got the starting nod against France in an elimination game and pitched four shutout innings (3 H, 1 BB, 4 K) to outduel Marc-André Habeck. Martin Schneider took over with a 2-0 lead in the fifth and Ercoli got the win. The Czechs wound wind up with a spot in the 2023 World Baseball Classic, their first time qualifying for the World Baseball Classic, and he had certainly played a key role. He tied Donovan Benoit, Enzo Sawayama and Humberto Mejía for 6th in the qualifiers in ERA (five players were at 0.00 in more innings).
