Biographical Information[edit]

Ondřej Furko has played in the Extraliga and for the Czech national team.

Furko represented the Czech Republic in the European Juvenile and Cadet Championships from 2011-2014. [1] He pitched two shutout innings in the 2015 European Junior Championship. [2] He made his Extraliga debut in 2016, tossing two shutout innings (1 K, 0 H, 0 BB) for Czech power Draci Brno. [3] That year, he also pitched two shutout frames in the 2016 Federations Cup in a win over Moskvich (2 H, 2 K). [4] He had a no-decision against Spain in the 2016 European Junior Championship (4 IP, 8 H, 3 BB, 4 K, 5 R, 4 ER). It was his only mound appearance in the event, but he hit well in the field (4 for 11, 2 2B, BB, 2 R, 4 RBI). [5]

At age 18, he was 4-0 with a 2.28 ERA in the 2017 Extraliga. When Draci Brno won the 2017 CEB Cup, he played a role, holding Minsk to one run in six before Michal Sobotka relieved, in winning their opener. He tied Tomáš Duffek for 7th in the event in ERA. [6] In the 2017 U23 European Championship, he turned in two fine outings (5 2/3 IP, 2 H, 3 BB, 1 UER, 0 ER, 5 K). [7] That year, he was one of two Czech players to play for the World Select team in the MLB Showcase Tournament; Marek Chlup was the other. [8]

The big right-hander was 6-1 with a save and a 3.50 ERA for Draci Brno in '18. He tied for 10th in the league in wins. [9] He struggled in the 2018 European Champions Cup (2 1/3 IP, 4 H, 2 R in 2 G), losing to T&A San Marino. [10] In the 2018 Super6, he had a 13.50 ERA in his lone game but the Czechs had a 12.10 team ERA so he was not too bad compared to his staffmates, many of them older and more experienced. In his outing, he relieved Ondřej Satoria in the 5th with a 8-2 deficit against Spain. He allowed a solo homer that inning to Richard Montiel and a two-run shot the next to Jesús Ustariz before fellow youngster Lukáš Hlouch took over in the 7th with a 11-3 deficit. [11]
