Biographical Information[edit]

Luis Vargas has pitched in the minors and for the Dominican national team.

Vargas signed with the Atlanta Braves; he made his pro debut with the DSL Braves in 2019, going 2-2 with a 3.68 ERA in 15 games. After the 2020 minor league season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, he had a save and allowed one unearned run in four innings for the '21 FCL Braves. In 2022, he was 4-4 with a 3.75 ERA for the Augusta GreenJackets, striking out 106 in 96 innings.

He split 2023 between Augusta (2-3, 5.35 in 8 G) and the Rome Braves (4-3, 4.37 in 14 G). He and Daniel Martinez combined on a no-hitter against the Hickory Crawdads. [1] He was back with the same teams in '24, going 2-0 with two saves and a 1.45 ERA in 9 games for Augusta and 3-3 with a 4.08 ERA for Rome (now the Rome Emperors). His 104 strikeouts were 7th in the Braves chain, between AJ Smith-Shawver and Bryce Elder. With the Dominican team for the 2024 Premier 12, he made one appearance, losing to Coen Wynne and Australia. He began by retiring Travis Bazzana. After Aaron Whitefield singled, Robbie Glendinning hit into a double play. He went 1-2-3 against Rixon Wingrove, Tim Kennelly and Darryl George in the second. In the third, though, Alex Hall tripled and Robbie Perkins homered. He walked Ulrich Bojarski then Bazzana grounded out, then Henry Henry succeeded him. [2]
