Biographical Information[edit]
Coen Wynne has pitched for the Australian national team.
Wynne played Australian rules football in high school. [1] Going to the US for college, he had a 6.75 ERA in 21 games as a freshman and 1-2 with a save and a 3.00 ERA in 27 games as a sophomore. His .97 WHIP led the staff. [2] He had a 2.25 ERA in 2020 and was 2-0 with a 3.57 ERA as a senior.
In his Australian Baseball League debut, he was 3-5 with a 4.13 ERA for the Sydney Blue Sox in the 2022-2023 ABL. He then made the Aussie team for the 2023 World Baseball Classic, a late addition after Tim Atherton left for personal reasons. [3] He did well in his lone outing, relieving Luke Wilkins in the 4th with a 5-2 lead over China, two on and one out. He hit Xudong Zhu then whiffed Pei Liang and Jin Yang to escape the jam. In the 5th, he retired NPB veteran Yusuke Masago and Chen Chen. Ray Chang reached on an error but Jie Cao hit into a force. He kept mowing them down in the 6th, retiring Jinjun Luo, Ning Li and Zhu in order. By the time Todd Van Steensel took over, Australia was up 11-2. [4]
