Biographical Information

Bryce Elder pitched only 10 games during his first season with the Atlanta Braves in 2022, but one of them was a complete game shutout, giving a share of the major league lead as no pitcher recorded more than one whitewash during the season. His shutout came on September 26th, against the Washington Nationals, in an 8-0 win. It was his penultimate start of the year as he finished with a record of 2-4, 3.17 with 46 strikeouts in 54 innings. His ERA over four September starts was 1.75, and his shutout against the Mets came at a very important point as the Braves finished tied with the Mets atop the NL East, but won the division title thanks to a better head-to-head record, forcing the Mets to play the Wild Card Series - which they lost.

He was known for sporting a huge beard during his rookie season - he called it his "good-luck beard" although reviews were mixed, with close female relatives and manager Brian Snitker going on the record to say they hated it. He surprised them by showing up in spring training in 2023 clean shaven, explaining he no longer needed the superstitious support of facial hair to be effective.
