Biographical Information[edit]

Luis Piterson has been a minor league infielder.

Piterson signed with the Kansas City Royals in February 2008; the scout was Mike Toomey. In his pro debut, he hit .256/.338/.306 with 11 steals in 13 tries for the DSL Royals. He moved up to the AZL Royals in '09 and batted .311/.361/.367 with 28 runs in 47 games. He tied for 11th in the Arizona League in average. In 2010, he hit .263/.302/.400 as the second baseman for the Burlington Royals. He was caught stealing in 9 of 22 tries, leading the Appalachian League in times gunned down. He also led league second basemen in putouts (140), assists (179) and double plays (43).

In 2011, Luis produced at a .298/.354/.386 clip for the Idaho Falls Chukars. His first summer in a full-season league was 2012, spent as a backup infielder for the Wilmington Blue Rocks; he hit .272/.306/.320. He played for the Colombian national team in the 2013 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers. In his lone game, he pinch-hit for Diover Ávila in the top of the 8th, down 6-1 against Brazil. He struck out against Gabriel Asakura and stayed in the game in right field.
