Biographical Information[edit]
Mike Toomey was a college coach, minor league manager and scout.
Toomey was 102-82 as head coach of George Washington University from 1976-1980 [1]. He then managed the Alexandria Dukes in 1980 and 1981 and even batted for them four times the first year (going hitless), as the Dukes, who were a co-op team, were short of players and activated both Toomey and his coach Robert Harris to make up the numbers.
Toomey served as a scout for the San Francisco Giants 1982-1993, for the, Texas Rangers 1993-1999, the Cleveland Indians 1999-2000, the New York Mets 2000-2001. Toomey joined the Montreal Expos in 2002 and was a National Crosschecker with the Expos and Pro Scout for the Washington Nationals through 2005. Moving to the Kansas City Royals in 2006, he was a scout and later Special Assistant to the General Manager, Dayton Moore through 2019. Toomey signed Kirt Manwaring, Mike Venafro, Sugar Ray Marimon, Luis Piterson and Mauricio Ramos.
