Biographical Information[edit]

Leonel Aldama was a minor league infielder and manager. While born in Cuba, he never played in the Cuban Winter League.

Aldama debuted in 1946 with the Mexico City Red Devils, going 16 for 64 with a double, triple, steal and 7 walks. He went 1 for 6 with a walk in '47 then hit .285/.387/.325 for the 1949 Monterrey Industriales. In 1950, he improved to .302/.358/.347 for Monterrey, stealing 20 bases. He fell to .263/.334/.308 with the 1951 Monterrey club, scoring 64 runs in 84 games. Overall, he played 265 games in the Mexican League, hitting .280/.351/.324 with 27 steals, 152 runs and no home runs.

Leonel hit .357/.432/.444 with 10 triples for the 1952 Juarez Indios. He was 6th in the Arizona-Texas League in average while playing primarily the outfield after having been a second baseman in Mexico. He split 1953 between Juarez and the El Paso Texans, with a combined batting line of .313/.392/.417 with 11 triples and 109 runs. He led Arizona-Texas League second basemen in putouts (364) and his .956 fielding percentage was the best of any player who appeared in over half of his team's games at 2B. Aldama improved to .334 with a .422 slugging for El Paso in 1954. It was his last year as a regular player.

Aldama managed the 1958 Chihuahua Dorados and also saw some action in the field (.289, .441 SLG). From 1964-1970, he managed in lesser circuits in Mexico, then he managed for one season and part of another in the Mexican League.
