Biographical Information[edit]

Alberto Palafox was a minor league catcher and manager.

He debuted in 1956, going 7 for 36 with a double between two Arizona-Mexico League clubs and appearing briefly for the Indios de Ciudad Juarez. In 1957, he played 3 games for Ciudad Juarez and 61 for the the Fresnillo Rojos, hitting a combined .294/.324/.381. His 14 errors led catchers in the Central Mexican League. In 1958, Palafox made it to the Mexican League, batting .251/.282/.336 for the Mexico City Diablos Rojos. He hit .280/.309/.321 for the same club in 1959 and led the league's backstops with 15 miscues. He improved to .315/.342/.408 in 1960 for his best season. He remained a solid contact hitter in 1961 (.303/.325/.385, 7 triples) and 1962 (.301/.331/.345). He fell to .235/.297/.289 in 1963, though.

Palafox split 1964 between Mexico City and the Reynosa Broncos, hitting .236/.265/.289 between the two clubs. He was 2 for 11 with a walk for Reynosa in 1965 and became a manager for the first time. He began 1966 as Reynosa's skipper then ended his playing career as a player-manager with the 1966 Yucatan Venados (.213/.262/.235). In 1977 Palafox was the manager at Ciudad Mante in the Mexican Center League.

Overall, Palafox had hit .278/.309/.343 in the Mexican League, with only 2 home runs and 93 walks (at least 12 of them intentional) in 2,122 at-bats.
