Biographical Information[edit]

László Győri has played for the Hungarian national team.

In the 2021 European Championship Qualifier, the 17-year-old allowed one run in four innings to beat Matti Nylander and Finland. He was also 0-for-4 as a third baseman in the event. [1] During the 2022 European Championship Qualifier, he hit .450/.522/.650 with four runs and four RBI but had a 10.13 ERA. He tied Mathis Meurant and teammates Sean Fekete and Bálint Piros for 5th in the qualifiers in hits (9) and handled 8 chances error-free. His four doubles tied Ryan Byrne, Matej Rudohradský, Tomas Valincius and Mael Zan for the most in the qualifiers. Hungary won a spot in the 2023 European Championship, their first European Championship. [2]

Győri appeared in five of Hungary's six games in the 2023 Euros, three at third base and two on the mound. He debuted versus Great Britain, replacing Ricardo Castillo and being retired by Tyler Sharples. His first mound turn came against Sweden when he replaced Robert Ogg with a 7-0 deficit in the 4th. He struck out Jeff Pruitt, got Leo Bäckström on a grounder, walked Thomas Paulich and got Daniel Johnson on a fly. The first five batters in the 5th got hits, though; by the time Márk Magas relieved, he had allowed 8 hits, two walks and five runs (all earned) in two innings. He finished the event 1-for-6 with a run, fielding .600 and with a 34.71 ERA. His hit came off Dimitri Lettas of Greece. While not low, his ERA was 8th on the 13-team Hungarian staff as five hurlers had higher marks. [3]
