Biographical Information[edit]

Kyung-su Park has won a Korean Series MVP.

Park was the first-round pick of the LG Twins in the 2003 KBO draft. [1] He was a backup infielder in 2003, hitting .273/.351/.372. Becoming a starter at 2B in 2004, he batted .268/.367/.369; he was hit by 13 pitches, tied for 9th in the league. He fell to .171/.307/.248 in 2005 while Jong-yeol Lee became the starter. He was the primary starter the next year, hitting only .210/.293/.295 and fielding .984 at 2B; he also backed up at shortstop. In 2007, he hit .238/.338/.331 and stole 10 bases in 13 tries, fielding .992 at second and again seeing action at SS (also at 3B).

The Seoul native's batting line in 2008 was .259/.330/.360, fielding .983 at 2B. He batted .238/.377/.372 in 2009, fielding .986 at second. During 2010, he hit .260/.381/.390 with 10 steals in 12 tries. He fielded .991 at second that year and was hit by 16 pitches, tying for 4th in the league. In 2011, he slipped to .227/.338/.306 and .971. He missed 2012-2013 due to mandatory military service. [2] Returning to LG in 2014, he batted .228/.344/.315 for LG, fielding .959 as a backup at 2B.

When the kt Wiz formed as an expansion team in 2015, he became their starter at the keystone and showed much better numbers, though he turned 31 years old that season. He hit .284/.399/.507 with 30 doubles, 22 home runs, 74 walks, 75 runs and 73 RBI, fielding .991 at 2B. Only Andy Marte had a better OPS among kt's regulars, while Park finished 8th in the KBO in walks. He again was a key player for the Wiz in 2016 at .313/.413/.522 with a team-high 80 RBI and 65 walks; his 20 homers were two shy of team leader Marte. He led the team in OPS, .037 ahead of Han-joon Yoo.

In 2017, the veteran produced at a .262/.352/.430 clip with 27 doubles and 15 home runs. He hit .262/.354/.472 with 25 round-trippers in 2018. At age 35 in 2019, his numbers fell to .247/.335/.375 and 10 HR while he fielded .989 at 2B. In 2020, he rebounded to .281/.381/.454 and reached double-digit homers for the sixth straight season after having never reached that mark in his decade with LG. In 2021, he fell back to single-digits with nine long balls, falling under the Mendoza line as well for the first time since 2005 at .196/.303/.353, though he fielded .990 at second. He then came up big in the 2021 Korean Series as the Wiz won their first title - he hit a big homer off Ariel Miranda of the Doosan Bears in Game 3 and played spectacular defense in the first three games, before leaving Game 3 with an injury. His combo of defense and the big homer (he was otherwise 1-for-7 in the Series) were enough for him to win Korean Series MVP as kt swept Doosan. [3] He was the oldest Korean Series MVP, but only held that record for a year before Kang-min Kim passed him.
