Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Kyle Schepel began his professional career in 2012.

At Grand Valley State University, Schepel went 31-7 in four seasons, winning the 2011 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Conference Player of the Year honor. He is also the school's all-time leader in victories, games started (45), strikeouts (259) and innings pitched (268). Despite his successful college career, he went undrafted and instead signed on with the Rockford RiverHawks of the independent Frontier League in 2012. That year, he went 4-7 with a 3.66 ERA in 16 games (11 starts). On September 23, 2012, Schepel signed with the Arizona Diamondbacks. Pitching for the Hillsboro Hops, South Bend Silver Hawks and Visalia Rawhide in 2013, Schepel went 7-8 with a 5.40 ERA in 31 games (19 starts). On April 23, he threw a seven-inning no-hitter against the Lansing Lugnuts for his first professional win and on August 31, he tossed a nine-inning no-no against the Boise Hawks. In 2014, Schepel went 4-4 with a 3.84 ERA in 52 relief appearances between South Bend and Visalia. He began 2015 with the independent Frontier Greys, though after striking out 8 in 4 innings while allowing no earned runs for them, he was signed by the Seattle Mariners. Between the Clinton LumberKings, Bakersfield Blaze and Triple A Tacoma Rainiers that year, he went 1-3 with a 3.43 ERA in 25 games, striking out 52 in 42 innings. He was 4-2 with a 2.09 ERA in 43 games between Bakersfield and the Jackson Generals in 2016, striking out 75 in 64 2/3 innings, while allowing only 37 hits. He was a California League Mid-Season All-Star that year. He played for the Potomac Nationals and Harrisburg Senators of the Washington Nationals chain in 2017, going 2-4 with 3.76 ERA in 34 games; in 55 innings, he had 65 strikeouts.
