Biographical Information

Third baseman Kyle Karros comes from a baseball family. His father, Eric Karros, was the 1992 National League Rookie of the Year who clubbed 284 home runs in a 14-year Major League career spent mostly with the Los Angeles Dodgers, and his older brother, Jared Karros, is a pitching prospect in the Dodgers chain. After slashing .276/.342/.407 at his father's alma matter - UCLA - the Colorado Rockies organization drafted him in the 5th round of the 2023 Amateur Draft. They sent him to the rookie league ACL Rockies, but he spent only three weeks there during which he slashed .327/.450/.408. He was moved up to the class A California League on August 15 and spent the rest of the season with the Fresno Grizzlies, in which hit .259/.365/.284. His aggregate numbers between the two levels were a slash line of .285/.397/.311 with 4 doubles, 17 RBI, and 3 stolen bases.

He moved up again to begin the 2024 season, to the Advanced-A Spokane Indians of the Northwest League. He and the Indians got of to a white-hot start, with Karros mashing .324/.439/.529 in the team's first nine games and the Indians winning the first eight in a row against the Vancouver Canadians and Tri-City Dust Devils. Karros hit his first professional home run on April 13 in Gesa Stadium against Brady Choban. It was an inside the park home run in an 8-3 Indians victory (Spokane's 8th win in succession to begin the season). His sizzling start continued through the month of April - he led the Northwest League in batting average (.333), slugging (.530), and OPS (.973), was second in on-base percentage (.443) and doubles (8), and checked in third with 22 hits, 35 total bases, and 14 RBI. On May 3, he was named the Northwest League Player of the Month for April. He would collect a Player of the Week award on June 30, and ended the year at .311/.390/.485 from the #3 spot in the Indians' lineup. He led the NWL in hits (147), doubles (33), RBI (78), total bases (229), and batting average (among those who qualified). He was tied for 2nd with Josh Hood of the Everett AquaSox with 15 home runs, just one long ball fewer than teammate Cole Carrigg, Spokane's leadoff hitter. He collected the game winning RBI of the 2024 Northwest League Championship Series on September 14. With the bases loaded in the bottom of the 10th inning, Geison Urbaez hit him with the first pitch of the plate appearance, forcing home the winning run; Spokane won the series over the Vancouver Canadians 3 games to 1. He was named the Northwest League MVP on September 18, the third straight player out of the Lilac City to earn the honor, following Jordan Beck (2023) and Zac Veen (2022). He was also one of six Indians to be named an NWL All-Star, along with Cole Carrigg, Zach Agnos, Chase Dollander, Carson Skipper, and the NWL Pitcher of the Year, Sean Sullivan. Furthermore, Baseball America named him the circuit's best defensive third baseman.
