Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Jordan Beck was nicknamed "Mike Honcho" by Tony Vitello, his baseball coach at the University of Tennessee. (A reference to a character in the movie Talladega Nights.) He played three years for the Volunteers, amassing a slash line of .284/.366/.553. He slugged .595 his final season. He also played one summer, 2021, for the Harwich Mariners of the Cape Cod League, during which he hit .267/.377/.400 in 27 games.

Prior to his college career, he had been drafted by the Boston Red Sox as a 14th round choice in 2019. In the 2022 amateur draft, he was the penultimate competitive balance pick in the first round, having been selected by the Colorado Rockies. He was originally assigned to the Arizona Complex League, but played only 15 games for the ACL Rockies prior to being promoted to the class A Fresno Grizzlies. He slashed a combined .296/.431/.477 with 7 doubles and 3 home runs in 88 at bats, and 21 walks against 20 strikeouts.

He was moved up to the A+ Spokane Indians in 2023, but got off to a slow start. He went hitless in the first homestand against the Eugene Emeralds, but with 3 walks (one of which was with the bases loaded). He broke out of his slump on April 27th, going 3-for-5 with a double and his first home run of the season against the Everett AquaSox, which began a 13-game hitting streak. After slashing .132/.214/.158 in the first two series of the year, he slashed .357/.403/.814 in the next two, hitting 5 doubles, 9 round-trippers and knocking home 26 runs. He upped his total base tally for the year to 63, which easily blew past his previous season's total of 42. At the All-Star break, he was hitting .292/.378/.566 with 20 home runs, 19 doubles and 72 RBI; he split his time almost equally between the three outfield positions (23 games at each corner and 20 in center) and also DH'ed 14 times. On July 14th, the day the season resumed following the break, he was promoted to AA and went 0-3 with 2 strikeouts in his first game with the Hartford Yard Goats that day. He hit home runs in his first three home games in Hartford in Dunkin' Park on July 18, 19 and 20. On July 26, he was named one of mlb.com's top 100 prospects following the graduation of Bo Naylor from the list. For the Yard Goats, he hit .240/.342/.406 with 15 doubles, 5 long balls and 19 RBI. He struck out the same number of times (71) as he had with the Indians, but in 103 fewer at bats (295 at bats in Spokane, 192 in Hartford). Despite playing less than two-thirds of the season in the Northwest League, he was named the league's Most Valuable Player on September 20; he was also named a Northwest League All-Star along with teammates Adael Amador, Yanquiel Fernandez, Sterlin Thompson, and Carson Palmquist - all five had since graduated to the Eastern League.

He started the 2024 in AAA with the Albuquerque Isotopes of the Pacific Coast League, hitting .307 in 25 games with 5 homers and 28 RBIs before he was called up to Denver. The Rockies had started the year with one of the worst records in the National League, battling the Miami Marlins for the dubious title, and it was clear that they should give their best prospects a chance to show what they could do at the big league level. In his debut on April 30th, he started in left field and batted eighth against the Marlins, and he went 2 for 4 in a 7-6 loss in ten innings.
