Thompson was initially assigned to the ACL Rockies but only spent a little more than two weeks there, during which he slashed .273/.328./382 in 15 games. He was moved up to the California League and got into 14 games with the Fresno Grizzlies to finish the season. He slashed .348/.380/.500 at the A level.

His first full season, 2023, began up one more level, with the Spokane Indians of the class A+ Northwest League. He began the season on fire slashing .477/.519/.682 with 6 doubles and a home run in the first two weeks while splitting time between third base and right field and either hitting leadoff or #3 in the batting order.

Some sources, including Baseball America, list his city of birth as Ocala, FL but that was his hometown at the time he went to high school.
