Bioraphical Information[edit]

Kevin Randel played eight seasons in the minors, briefly reaching AAA.

Randel was taken by the Chicago Cubs in the 48th round of the 2001 amateur draft. He did not sign, then hit .274 with 54 runs and 8 homers as a junior at Long Beach State. The Florida Marlins took him in the 13th round of the 2002 amateur draft. Sent to the Jamestown Jammers, Kevin hit .277/.404/.443 with a team-high 49 walks, 5 triples, 7 homers and 49 runs. He led the New York-Penn League in walks.

In 2003, Kevin fell to .216/.331/.363 for the Greensboro Grasshoppers with 13 homers, 63 walks, 30 steals in 37 tries and a career-high 66 runs. He did well in limited time in 2004 with Greensboro (.299/.369/.478 in 35 G) and played 12 games with the GCL Marlins. During 2005, the Californian put up a .285/.384/.407 line with 15 steals in 18 tries for the Jupiter Hammerheads. He made 20 errors, leading Florida State League second basemen.

Randel did well with the 2006 Carolina Mudcats (.280/.376/.483, 26 2B) but started 2007 poorly for them (.184/.333/.296 in 42 G) and returned to Jupiter, where he hit .304/.405/.537 in 78 games. In 2008, he bounced between Jupiter (.298/.392/.531, 15 HR, 62 RBI in 93 G), the Albuquerque Isotopes (.320/.370/.480 in his 7 AAA games) and Carolina (4 for 12, BB). He ended his playing career with the 2009 Jacksonville Suns, batting .253/.371/.426 with 62 walks and 12 homers. In 824 career minor leagues, he had batted .267/.374/.439 with 83 homers and 82 steals (in 105 tries). He had fielded .961 at second base, his primary position, while also appearing at the other three infield spots and in the outfield.

Randel moved into the coaching ranks with the Greensboro Grasshoppers in 2010-2011 and Jacksonville Suns in 2012-2014. He became a manager with Greensboro in 2015. He was scheduled to be manager of the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp in 2020 before the season was cancelled due to Covid-19.
