From BR Bullpen

The Double-A South was established in 2021 as part of the reorganization of Minor League Baseball into the Professional Development League. It is one of three AA sections of the League, the others being the Double-A Central and the Double-A Northeast. It was largely made up of former teams of the Southern League, which played its last season in 2019.
