Biographical Information[edit]

Kawan de Araújo has pitched for the Brazilian national team.

In the 2015 U-12 Baseball World Cup, he was 1-1 with a 4.29 ERA (losing to Cuba and beating Australia) and hit .444/.476/.444 with 4 steals in 4 tries as a 1B/P. [1] At the 2018 U-15 Baseball World Cup, he had a 2-0, 2.69 record, beating China and South Africa. He tied Andrew Painter and others for the lead in wins. [2] He was signed by the Boston Red Sox in July 2019 [3] but retired a month later due to the psychological stress of being in a foreign country (he had been assigned to the DSL Red Sox 1. [4]

Making it to Brazil's senior national team, he appeared in the 2022 South American Championship as Brazil's youngest player. He relieved Silvio Figueiredo in the 5th with a 9-3 lead over host Peru, the bases loaded and no outs. Daniel Shimura hit into a two-run error. Kawan fanned Jorge Pastor, then Yun Contreras hit into another two-run error. The right-hander took things out of his fielders' hands by striking out José Salas and Johan Verastegui to end the inning. He allowed two hits and one hit batsmen over the next two innings, adding three more strikeouts and getting credit for the win over Edgar Paredes. [5]
