Jung-hyun Baek pitched in the KBO.
Baek was drafted by the Samsung Lions in the first round of the 2007 KBO draft, and he had a 7.71 ERA in 11 appearances in his first season. He only pitched 3 games in 2008, and he recorded a 7.36 ERA in 20 games in 2009. Baek collected 3 holds with a 4.58 ERA in 43 games in 2010, then he missed the entire 2011 season due to Tommy John surgery. Baek's ERA was 4.91 in 2012, and he struggled again in 2013 as he pitched 28 games with a 6.66 ERA. He was 0-3 with a 5.24 ERA in 2014, and he had a 6.11 ERA in 31 games in 2015.
The Daegu native had a career-high 70 appearances in 2016, but his ERA was 5.77 with a 6-3 record. He was 3rd in games, between Hae-soo Jin and Jin-sung Kim). Baek was used as a swingman in 2017, and he was 8-4 with a 4.38 ERA. He became a full-time starter in 2018, and he went 7-7 with a 4.58 ERA. Baek then had a 8-10 record with a 4.24 ERA in 2019, but he only started 11 games in 2020 due to injuries; his ERA was 5.19 with a 4-4 record. Baek finally broke out in 2021, and he was 14-5 with a solid 2.63 ERA. He ranked 2nd in ERA (.30 behind Ariel Miranda) and 4th in wins (tied with Miranda, Tae-in Won and Min-woo Kim (02)).
Baek signed a 4-year, 3.8 billion won extension with the Lions after the 2021 season, but he struggled in 2022. He was 4-13 with a 5.27 ERA, and he led the league in losses and homers allowed. Baek bounced back soon in 2023, and he was 7-5 with a 3.67 ERA. However, Baek suffered from a calf injury in 2024, and his ERA rose to 5.95 with a 6-5 record.
Baek's repertoire included a fastball, slider and changeup.
