Biographical Information

Juan Fuentes has been a minor league catcher.

Fuentes signed with the Seattle Mariners in February 2004; the scouts were Emilio Carrasquel and Luis Martinez. Fuentes had no at-bats and one run for Aguirre in 2005 then missed 2006 after Tommy John surgery. in 2007, he returned to action with the AZL Mariners and hit .313/.370/.393. He threw out 14 of 30 attempted base-stealers, the second-best rate in the Arizona League. Had he qualified, he would have been 8th in the league in batting average.

In 2008, Fuentes hit .337/.407/.462 for the Pulaski Mariners, with 18 doubles and 40 RBI in 59 games. He tied for 4th in the Appalachian League in doubles, was 4th in average and 5th in OBP. He was less productive in 2009, split between the Everett AquaSox (.267/.343/.398 in 49 G), Clinton Lumber Kings (5 for 25, 3B, 2 BB) and High Desert Mavericks (5 for 15, BB). He went 0 for 1 for the Cardenales de Lara in the 2009-2010 Venezuelan League (through 2012-2013, it is his only appearance in that loop).

Juan did not appear in the minors in 2010 or 2011. In the 2011 Baseball World Cup, he backed up Luis Alen for the Venezuelan national team. He went 3 for 11 with two doubles, two runs and a passed ball. He was 1 for 5 in the same role in the 2011 Pan American Games. In 2012, he played for the independent Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings, hitting .230/.254/.246. He was 1 for a with a double, two runs and two RBI in the 2013 Bolivarian Games, backing up Gabriel Purroy at catcher. His sacrifice fly off Guillermo Valdez in the 11th inning of the semifinals scored Purroy with the winner against Guatemala that sent Venezuela to the Gold Medal game (where they lost)
