Biographical Information[edit]
Joe Cantillon had a long playing career in the minors, and managed three years in the majors along with many years in the minors. He umpired in the American League in 1901 and the National League in 1902.
He played several years for Oakland in the 1890's, and was a teammate of the young Clark Griffith. As manager of the 1907 Washington Senators, he gave young Walter Johnson his major league debut.
Cantillon managed many years at Minneapolis, and some of his players stayed with him for years. Henri Rondeau was on his team from 1913-23, Dave Altizer was with him from 1910-18, and Jimmy Williams stuck with him from 1910-15.
Cantillon's grandson, Bud Dubia, played in the minor leagues from 1946 to 1950 [1]. His brother Mike Cantillon was a minor league manager and league president.
