Biographical Information[edit]

Jino Gonzalez pitched a decade in the minor leagues.

He was drafted three straight years: by the San Francisco Giants in the 27th round of the 2000 amateur draft out of high school (one round before Alex Hinshaw), by the Colorado Rockies in the 31st round of the 2001 amateur draft out of junior college and by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in the 46th round of the 2002 amateur draft (again out of junior college). The scout for Tampa Bay was Fred Repke.

In his pro debut, Gonzalez split 2003 between the Princeton Devil Rays (2-1, 6 R, 2 ER, 10 K in 9 IP) and Hudson Valley Renegades (0-1, 4.50). In 2004, he posted a 9-5, 4.56 record for the Charleston RiverDogs. He tied Jason Cromer, Jason Standridge and Jim Magrane for 6th in the Rays chain in victories. He was 6-7 with a 4.71 ERA for the 2005 Southwest Michigan Devil Rays. On May 28, he tossed the first five innings of a combined 7-inning no-hitter against the Beloit Snappers; Matt Larson and Jose De La Cruz wrapped it up. He went 6-7 with a 5.53 ERA for the 2006 Visalia Oaks.

As a reliever (43 G, 1 St) for the '07 Vero Beach Dodgers, Gonzalez struck out 93 in 91 1/3 IP and went 5-6 with a 2.86 ERA. He battled control problems (57 BB in 87 2/3 IP) for the 2008 Montgomery Biscuits, going 2-4 with a 5.44 ERA in his last year in the Tampa Bay system. Moving to the independent leagues in 2009, he was 4-7 with a 4.29 ERA for the Sioux Falls Canaries. In 2010, he had a 7-6, 4.05 record for the Victoria Rosebuds with only 29 walks in 106 2/3 IP. He split 2011 between the York Revolution (2-1, 4.30 in 4 G), Lincoln Saltdogs (6-1, 1.83 in 10 G) and Lake County Fielders (1-0, 2.49 in 5 G). He was far less crisp in 2012 with the Long Island Ducks (0-2, 6.16 in 5 G) and Lincoln (0-3, 12.21 in 5 G) to drop his career record to 50-51, 4.38.
