Biographical Information[edit]

Jim Stassi played two years in the minors (reaching AAA) and one season in Italy.

Stassi was picked in the 17th round of the 1982 amateur draft by the San Francisco Giants. He hit .270/.360/.333 for the 1982 Fresno Giants. He split 1983 between the Shreveport Captains (.273 in 19 G) and the Phoenix Giants (.278 in 39 G as the backup to Jeff Ransom. Some articles incorrectly list him as playing in the 1984 Olympics for Italy. He played for Rimini in Serie A1 in 1985, hitting .394/.468/.620 with 87 runs and 79 RBI in 66 games. He was used mainly at catcher, though he saw significant time at third base.

Following his playing days, Stassi was a long-time coach at Yuba City High School.

Stassi's son Max Stassi made the majors in 2013 and another son, Brock Stassi, followed suit four years later. Additionally, his uncle Sam Stassi played minor league ball, and he is the great-nephew of big leaguer Myril Hoag. Some news stories claim his father Bob played in the minors as well as his grandfather Sam Sr. but neither is listed in BR Minors as of March 2012.
