Biographical Information[edit]

Sam Stassi is the uncle of minor leaguer Jim Stassi and great-uncle of major leaguers Max Stassi and Brock Stassi. Sam's uncle Myril Hoag played in the majors while his great-uncle Tracy Hoag played in the minors. Some articles have claimed that Sam's father Sam Sr. and brother Bob played in the PCL but BR Minors does not list either as of March 2012.

Infielder Sam debuted in 1946 with the Albuquerque Dukes, hitting .280/.336/.346 in 31 games as a backup infielder. In 1947, he improved to .313 with a .451 slugging percentage for the Yakima Stars. After not playing in 1948-1949, he returned in 1950 with the Reno Silver Sox (.248/.339/.322 in 77 G, .885 fielding at 3B) and Porterville Packers (.237/.283/.289 in 43 G, .947 fielding at 3B).
