Biographical Information

The brother of Max Stassi and the son of Jim Stassi, first baseman Brock Stassi made his pro debut in 2011.

Amateur Career

Brock was 4-2 with a 4.85 ERA as a college freshman in 2008. In '09, he fell to 6-5, 6.63 while hitting .262/.379/.447. He was third in the Western Athletic Conference in runs allowed, earned runs allowed and homers served up. During 2010, he improved to 7-4, 3.43 and .364/.460/.665 with 45 runs in 52 games. He tied for the WAC lead with 5 triples but was more noted for his pitching effort. He was second in the Conference in ERA (behind Lenny Linsky), tied for second in wins and was 5th with 67 strikeouts. He was named the WAC Pitcher of the Year. He was selected by the Cleveland Indians in the 44th round of the 2010 amateur draft but did not sign. That summer, he hit .260/.362/.453 for the Wisconsin Woodchucks of the Northwoods League and went 2-2 with a 5.06 ERA.

Stassi struggled on the hill (2-2, 7.79) in 2011 but batted .360/.454/.512. He was 5th in the WAC in average, 4th in hits (73) and tied for 3rd in doubles (19). A year after being WAC Pitcher of the Year, he was the All-Conference first baseman.

Minor League Career

He was then taken by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 33rd round of the 2011 amateur draft. The scout was Joey Davis. He made his pro debut that summer with the Williamsport Crosscutters, hitting .200/.291/.233 with one home run in 50 games. He fielded .993 at first base and led New York-Penn League first baseman with 45 assists.

Major League Career

Stassi made the Phillies' opening day roster in 2017 following a strong performance in spring training. He had been an underdog to make the team and was overwhelmed with emotion when given the news he was heading north with the biog league squad. His debut came in the Philies' first game, on April 3rd against the Cincinnati Reds. Pinch-hitting for Edubray Ramos in the 8th, he drew a walk against Michael Lorenzen and advanced to second on a wild pitch but was left stranded there.

Post-Playing Career

Stassi became a hitting coach with the Jersey Shore BlueClaws in 2023 and Reading Fightin Phils in 2024.

Other Family

In addition to his father and brother, Stassi's great-uncle Sam Stassi also played minor league ball. His great-great uncle, Myril Hoag, played in the majors. Some news stories claim his grandfather Bob Stassi played in the PCL but BR Minors does not list him as of March 2012.
