Biographical Information[edit]

Ji-chul Park pitched in the KBO for 14 years.

Park signed with the Lotte Giants in 1994, and he had a 2.20 ERA in 14 games that season. He was 5-4 with a 3.96 ERA in 1995, and he pitched 1 2/3 shutout innings in the 1995 Korean Series; the OB Bears beat the Giants in 7 games. Park slumped to 1-9 with a 4.70 ERA in 1996, and he broke out in 1997. He had a 14-5 record with a 2.45 ERA and 7 saves, and he ranked 3rd in ERA (between Chang-yong Lim and Min-chul Chung), 9th in saves (tied with Myeong-seok Cha) and 3rd in wins (tied with Lim and Chung). Park struggled in 1998, and he was 2-11 with a 7.73 ERA. He ranked 6th in losses that season, 6 behind Sang-mok Lee.

The Busan native missed the entire 1999 season due to shoulder injury, and he was 6-9 with a 4.60 ERA in 2000. He went 13-7 with a 4.03 ERA in 2001, and he was 7th in wins (tied with Young-soo Bae). However, Park had a shoulder injury again in 2002, and he only pitched 5 games with a 5.11 ERA. He came back in 2003 with a 8-7 record and a 3.89 ERA, and he was 9-7 with a 3.87 ERA in 2004. He ranked 8th in ERA, between Jin-woo Song and Ju-won Oh. Park was 1-5 with a 6.06 ERA in 2005, and his ERA was 2.98 in 18 games in 2006. He only got 6 appearances with the big club in 2007, and the Giants released him. The LG Twins picked him up, but Park allowed 8 runs in 5 1/3 innings in 2009 then he retired.

Overall, Park was 61-72 with a 4.22 ERA, struck out 719 and pitched 1,117 2/3 innings in 14 seasons in the KBO. As of 2024, he was 82nd in strikeouts in KBO history, between Seung-ho Lee and Young-pil Choi.
