Biographical Information[edit]

Jeremy Rivera played as high as AAA and has been on the Puerto Rican national team.

He was picked by the Boston Red Sox in the 17th round of the 2014 amateur draft. The scout was Vaughn Williams. [1] Making his pro debut that summer with the GCL Red Sox, he hit .178/.275/.222 for the GCL Red Sox. His winter league debut soon followed, as he was 0 for 1 for the Indios de Mayagüez.

In 2015, he batted .256/.328/.284 for the Lowell Spinners, fielding .950 at short. In the winter, he was 2-for-19 with 3 walks. Moving up to the Greenville Drive, he posted a .260/.300/.334 batting line in '16, again starting at short. After a 2-for-11 winter, he hit .246/.284/.332 for the 2017 Salem Red Sox, fielding .975 at SS. For the 2017-2018 Indios, he was 1-for-5 with a double but scored four runs.

Rivera produced at a .262/.304/.328 clip with 70 runs for the 2018 Portland Sea Dogs, fielding .967 at short. He was third in the BoSox chain in runs, behind only Bobby Dalbec and Kervin Suarez. In the Eastern League, he was 10th in runs (between Josh Lester and Tyler Krieger). He hit .238/.290/.298 for the 2018-2019 Indios, starting at short ahead of Yadiel Rivera.

Back with Portland for 2019, he slipped to .236/.288/.333 and was now being used as a utility man rather than a starter. He batted .348/.415/.435 in 15 games for Mayagüez in the winter. The 2020 minor league season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He hit .238/.353/.310 for the Indios in the winter, then was 2-for-7 for the Criollos de Caguas in the 2021 Caribbean Series.

Winding down his time in the Red Sox system, he split 2021 between Portland (.150/.269/.175 in 26 G) and the Worcester Red Sox (.270/.351/.365 in 45 G), playing all three outfield positions and every infield position except for first base. He hit .183/.256/.225 for the 2021-2022 Indios followed by .208/.281/.216 the next winter, but fielding .983 at short. When Edwin Diaz joined them for the 2023 Caribbean Series, Rivera wound up a back-up; he was 1-for-10 with a walk, double and a run, scoring the game-runner against Cuba after running for Brian Navaretto. He also made an uncharacteristic error. He hit .250/.308/.250 for Puerto Rico in the 2023 Caribbean Baseball Cup and fielded .941. [2]

Remaining with Puerto Rico for the 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games, he hit .357/.471/.429 with four runs in five games, fielding .957 as the starting shortstop. [3] He hit .222/.303/.222 for Mayagüez in 2023-2024, fielding .914 for a drop-off from his usual work.
