Biographical Information[edit]

Tyler Krieger has played in the minors.

Krieger was All-State in high school and picked by the Seattle Mariners in the 35th round of the 2012 amateur draft. He opted for college and hit .257/.349/.312 as a freshman, fielding .958. His sophomore year, he improved his batting line to .338/.410/.447, stole 19 bases in 24 tries and scored 49 runs in 57 games, but fielded .873. He was second-team All-ACC at shortstop, behind Trea Turner, and made the ACC leaderboard in runs (tied for 5th), doubles (18, tied for 5th), hits (74, tied for 8th with Brett Austin), steals (tied for 7th with Tyler Palmer) and average (5th).

As a junior, he hit .339/.448/.419 with 45 runs, 41 RBI and 41 walks in 61 games. He fielded .915, used primarily at DH and then 2B. He was again second-team All-ACC, finishing 6th in the conference in average and OBP. The Cleveland Indians took him in the fourth round of the 2015 amateur draft; the scout was Brad Tyler.

Baseball America rated him Cleveland's #20 prospect entering 2016. He had a strong pro debut, split between the Lake County Captains (.313/.385/.427 in 69 G) and Lynchburg Hillcats (.282/.369/.405 in 59 G). He had 84 runs and 8 triples on the year. He had a 23-game hitting streak, third-longest in the minors that year. He finished third among Indians farmhands in runs (behind Greg Allen and Anthony Santander), tied for first in triples and was 4th in average. He fielded .970, a big improvement over his last two college seasons. Baseball America moved him up a couple spots, to the #18 Indians prospect.

Krieger was the youngest position player on the Israeli national team in the 2017 World Baseball Classic, the first World Baseball Classic for Israel. Starting at second base in their opener, he drove in the first run of the Classic, with a bases-loaded walk from South Korea's Won-jun Chang to score Nate Freiman. He had three hits and three RBI the next day against Taiwan.
