Biographical Information[edit]

Catcher Brett Austin was a first-round pick in 2011.

Austin hit .537 with 12 home runs as a high school senior. He had a commitment to North Carolina State University when the San Diego Padres chose him 54th in the 2011 amateur draft. The pick was compensation for the loss of Yorvit Torrealba to free agency and was the third of four San Diego first-round selections that year, following Joe Ross and Michael Kelly and preceding Jace Peterson. Austin did not end up signing.

After attending NCSU, Austin was again drafted, this time by the Chicago White Sox in the fourth round of the 2014 amateur draft. He made his pro debut that summer with the Kannapolis Intimidators, hitting .235 in 42 games.

Austin's brother, Chase Austin, has played in the Florida Marlins organization.
