Biographical Information

Jeffrey Domínguez played as high as AAA.

Domínguez was picked by the Seattle Mariners in the 9th round of the 2004 amateur draft, one spot before Troy Patton. The scout was Pedro Grifol. He hit .222/.288/.247 in his pro debut with the AZL Mariners and fielded .912 at shortstop (his main position). One positive was 10 steals in 10 tries. In 2005, he played for the AZL Mariners (.240/.297/.288 in 33 G), Inland Empire 66ers (6 for 18, 2B, 4 BB) and Tacoma Rainiers (0 for 1). He fielded .910 overall and stole 8 bases while being caught once. He bounced around in 2006 as well, playing for the AZL Mariners (3 for 12, 2 2B, 2 BB), Inland Empire (.245/.290/.288 in 46 G) and the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (.263/.332/.291 in 68 G). He fielded .909 with 39 errors at shortstop between the three clubs.

Jeffrey made 34 errors for the 2007 High Desert Mavericks, while producing at a .261/.311/.364 clip. He hit 28 doubles, stole 18 bases in 26 tries and scored 66 runs. In 2008, he played at least 10 games at 2B, 3B, SS and LF for the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx; the utility man hit only .205/.269/.265 and he stole 18 bases while being thrown out running four times. He split 2009 between High Desert (.261/.319/.391 in 80 G) and West Tenn (.214/.321/.214 in 27 G), again in a utility role. The next season, he played for West Tenn (.213/.273/.377 in 22 G) and Tacoma (.227/.299/.307 in 29 G).

Moving to the Florida Marlins chain in 2011, he was used as a starter for the first time in years, manning short for the Jupiter Hammerheads. He fielded .936 and batted .255/.305/.360. He stole 25 bases in 30 attempts. The Carolina native also appeared for the Jacksonville Suns, going 7 for 18 with a homer. He was 9th in the Florida State League in average. Through that season, his career minor league batting line was .246/.304/.326.

Domínguez played for the Puerto Rican national team that fall. He was 5 for 21 with two doubles and two walks in the 2011 Baseball World Cup, while making one error as Puerto Rico's starting third baseman. In the 2011 Pan American Games, he went 4 for 13 with a steal. He remained in affiliated ball through 2012, then played in the independent Atlantic League through 2016. He also spent many winters in the Puerto Rican Winter League.
