Biographical Information[edit]

Jake Sanchez has pitched as high as AAA after being undrafted out of college.

Sanchez played baseball, basketball and football in high school. After a year of junior college, he was 5-4 for Iowa Wesleyan in 2011. He followed with a 10-2, 2.42 record and 111 K in 93 IP. He led the Midwest Collegiate Conference in strikeouts, was second in wins and third in ERA, tied the school record for wins and was the first pitcher in school annals to top 100 Ks. He was named the MCC Pitcher of the Year.

Jake was 5-2 with a 2.89 ERA for the Joliet Slammers that summer to start that pro career. He went 0-2 with a save and a 2.36 ERA for Joliet in 2013. The Chicago White Sox signed him in June and sent him to the Great Falls Voyagers, for whom he had a 6-3, 2.87 record with 76 K to 14 BB in 81 2/3 IP. He won the Pioneer League ERA title (.43 over Patrick Conroy), led in strikeouts (one over Victor Araujo) and tied for third in wins. He joined Conroy, Jonathan Van Eaton, Devin Burke and Ben Lively as the loop's All-Star pitchers, while Sanchez also picked up Pitcher of the Year honors.

The Californian opened 2014 with the Kannapolis Intimidators (5-4, 3 Sv, 2.80, 66 K, 14 BB in 61 IP) then was dealt to the Oakland A's for Michael Taylor. Assigned to the Stockton Ports, he posted a 8-2, 3.42 record with 72 K to 17 BB in 71 IP. He split 2015 between the Midland RockHounds (10-8, 4.50) and Nashville Sounds (1-1, 8.00 in 2 G). He tied Jonathan Dziedzic for third in the Texas League in wins and was 7th with 100 strikeouts. Among A's minor leaguers, he was second in wins (one behind Brett Graves) and tied Dillon Overton for third in strikeouts (106).

In winter ball with the Águilas de Mexicali, he had four saves and a 5.14 ERA in 33 outings. He was 6th in the Mexican Pacific League in games pitched. In the 2016 Caribbean Series, he reinforced the Venados de Mazatlan, allowing 7 hits, a walk and two runs in three innings. His four pitching appearances were tied for 4th-most in the Series and the Venados won the title. He then was put on the Mexican national team roster for the 2017 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers. He would be one of only two Mexican hurlers to allow a run in the qualifiers as they cruised to a spot in the 2017 World Baseball Classic. Against the Czech national team in the opener, he relieved Miguel Armando Aguilar in the 8th with a 2-0 lead. He retired Jakub Hajtmar and fanned Tomáš Juněc but Matěj Hejma homered to suddenly make it a one-run affair. Sanchez retired former major leaguer Mike Cervenak to end the inning. In the 9th, he was relieved by Oliver Pérez and Mexico held on for the 2-1 win.

In 2016, he was 7-5 with 8 saves and a 3.10 ERA for Midland, striking out 72 in 66 2/3 IP. He tied Eduardo Paredes for 10th in the TL in saves and was 4th with 44 pitching appearances. Among Oakland farmhands, he tied Tucker Healy for second in saves and tied for 8th in games pitched.
