Biographical Information

Pitcher Dillon Overton began his professional career in 2014. He was originally drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 26th round of the 2010 amateur draft, one pick after outfielder Scott Schebler, but opted not to sign. He did sign after being taken by the Oakland Athletics in the second round of the 2013 amateur draft.

The hurler made 12 starts between the AZL Athletics and Vermont Lake Monsters in 2014, going 0-3 with a 1.95 ERA. Entering 2015, Baseball America ranked him the club's #8 prospect. That year, he was 7-6 with a 3.43 ERA in 126 innings between the Stockton Ports and Midland RockHounds. He began 2016 with the Triple-A Nashville Sounds, going 8-4 with a 3.01 ERA before his promotion, again having been named the team's #8 prospect by BA.

He made his big league debut on June 25, 2016 against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. In 5 2/3 innings, he allowed seven hits (including home runs to Kole Calhoun, Mike Trout and Albert Pujols), two walks and three earned runs, while striking out three. His third strikeout was something of revenge, as he got Pujols looking in the third inning. He was demolished in his next start, on June 30 against the San Francisco Giants. He lasted only three innings, allowing eight hits, three walks and eight earned runs. He surrendered home runs to Buster Posey and Brandon Crawford. In 7 games, including 5 starts, he was 1-3, 11.47, having allowed a whopping 48 hits in 24 1/3 innings. On January 26, 2017, he was traded to the Seattle Mariners for minor league C Jason Goldstein.
