Biographical Information[edit]
Jaime Steward pitched five seasons as a pro.
He was 2-4 with a 3.09 ERA as a college junior and 8-4 with a 2.76 ERA as a senior, finishing 4th in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference in ERA and tied for second in wins. The Anaheim Angels took him in the 39th round of the 2001 amateur draft. He split the summer between the AZL Angels (5-3, Sv, 2.02) and Provo Angels (1-0, 5.40 in 1 G). He tied for third in the Arizona League in wins (behind Tanner Watson and Jose Amancio and was third in ERA (after Aaron Kirkland and Ryan Hannaman).
In 2002, he was with Provo (1-0, 8.10 in 4 G) and the Cedar Rapids Kernels (6-6, 3.66 in 26 G) to end his time in the Angels chain. He pitched for the independent Camden Riversharks in 2004, going 4-6 with a save and a 4.19 ERA. In 2005, he posted a 11-8, 4.85 record for Camden. He tied former major leaguer Lance Davis for 5th in the Atlantic League in wins, was 4th in IP (174 1/3, between Pat Ahearne and Brett Laxton) and was third with 126 strikeouts (behind Ben Simon and Andy Zwirchitz) but was also 3rd with 194 hits allowed (behind Ahearne and Simon). Moving to the Atlantic City Surf in 2006, he slumped to 1-3, 5.83 to finish his pro career.
He had gone 29-26 with two saves and a 4.43 ERA in 119 games as a pro (63 starts). In 463 2/3 IP, he allowed 479 hits and 182 walks while striking out 351.
Steward was pitching coach at Rider University from 2009-2015.
