Biographical Information[edit]

Iván Houellemont has played in the minors and for the Puerto Rican national team.

Undrafted out of high school, he signed with the Boston Red Sox. He split 2016 between the DSL Red Sox 1 (.171/.370/.200 in 13 G) and GCL Red Sox (0-for-4), being used as a middle infielder. In 2017, he improved to .288/.383/.353 for the DSL Red Sox, with 29 RBI in 56 games, fielding .975 at short. He tied for 9th in the Dominican Summer League with 13 times hit-by-pitch. After falling to .164/.274/.180 for the 2018 GCL Red Sox, though, his time in the minors ended.

He had transitioned to pitching with RA12 in the Puerto Rican Winter League by 2022-2023, going 2-3 with a 2.68 ERA. He got the nod to start against Nicaragua but allowed four hits and an unearned run in 1 1/3 IP before Andrés Santiago relieved. His other outing, he relieved Bryan Marrero in the 6th with a 2-2 tie versus Curaçao. He retired Darren Seferina, Dudley Leonora and Shean Michel in order. In the 7th, though, he gave up a double to Ortwin Pieternella Jr. and intentionally walked Roderick Bernadina before striking out Ulrich Snijders on three pitches. Freddie Cabrera took over and let the winning run in, giving Houellemont the loss. [1]
