Biographical Information

Hua-Wei Lin was both a player and a coach in the Olympics in a long career in baseball.

Lin debuted with the Taiwan national team at age 18 in the 1976 Amateur World Series. He also appeared in the 1977 Intercontinental Cup, 1982 Amateur World Series (where he was the All-Star 3B), 1983 Asian Championship and 1984 Olympics. In 1983 and 1984, he played in Japan's industrial leagues, first with Yamaha then with Kawai Musical Instruments. Lin retired as a player at age 28 in 1985. He had been a third baseman and second baseman during his playing career.

Lin earned a master's degree at the University of Tsukuba while in Japan, then got his PhD back in Taiwan.

Lin coached for Taiwan in numerous events including the 1991 Asian Championship, 1991 Intercontinental Cup, 1992 Olympics, 1993 Asian Championship, 1994 Baseball World Cup, 1994 Asian Games, 1997 Asian Championship, 1998 Baseball World Cup, 1998 Asian Games, 1999 World Port Tournament, 1999 Intercontinental Cup and 2001 World Port Tournament.

Lin also managed Taiwan a few times, in the 1999 Asian Championship, 2001 Baseball World Cup, 2001 Asian Championship and most notably in the 2006 World Baseball Classic, the first time the World Baseball Classic was staged.

Since 2006, Lin has been a professor at the National Taiwan College of Physical Education; he had previously been a coach for the school.
