Biographical Information[edit]

Gar Millay played in the minor leagues for six seasons, from 1986 to 1991. He spent two years and part of a third at Triple-A, but did not reach the major leagues.

Millay was originally drafted by the New York Mets in the 9th round of the 1983 amateur draft, one pick ahead of catcher Terry Steinbach, two picks after closer Jeff Montgomery and also ahead of Jay Buhner, but opted not to sign. He did sign after being taken by the Texas Rangers in the 28th round of the 1986 amateur draft, a couple picks ahead of hurler Joe Grahe. The signing scout was Dean Jongewaard.

In his second campaign, with the Port Charlotte Rangers and Tulsa Drillers, he slugged 13 home runs and had 33 doubles. In his first taste of Triple-A, in 1988, he hit .211/.233/.338 with 2 home runs and 7 RBI in 18 games for the Oklahoma City 89ers. He had 10 home runs and 58 RBI on the year overall. In 1990, he hit .257/.344/.346 in 104 games for Oklahoma and the next year, he hit .233/.381/.358 in 93 games to wrap up his career.

Overall, he hit .251/.345/.374 with 43 home runs and 269 RBI over 649 games.

He died of brain cancer at the age of 46 in 2011.
