Biographical Information[edit]
Dean Jongewaard was the brother of Roger Jongewaard. Dean went 15 for 88 with two doubles for the 1949 Bartlesville Pirates and 4 for 27 for the 1950 Mayfield Clothiers (also pitching 10 games). He began assisting his brother as a scout for the New York Mets in Southern California and Arizona, eventually inheriting his brother's territory when Roger left the Mets. He then scouted for the Texas Rangers (1986-1987), Atlanta Braves (1988-1994), and Philadelphia Phillies (1995- ). His signees included Kevin Elster, Jeff Gardner, Chipper Jones, Ryan Klesko, Gar Millay, Rich Rodriguez and Darryl Strawberry. His son Steve Jongewaard also was a scout.
