Biographical Information[edit]

Gabriel Fromental-Houle has played in the French Division I and for the French national team.

A Canadian, he came to France in 2017 to play for the Rouen Huskies. [1] He hit .244/.407/.333 with 12 runs in 13 games for the Division I champs. [2] He starred in the 2017 European Champions Cup, though, driving in six against the Buchbinder Legionäre Regensburg and falling a triple shy of the cycle against the Mainz Athletics and batting .500/.455/1.200 with two homers and nine RBI in four games. He homered off Tim Stahlmann and Eric Faint. He was among the event's leaders in average (tied Maik Ehmcke for 4th), slugging (1st, .200 ahead of Alex Sambucci), runs (tied for 8th), RBI (2nd, one behind MLB-bound Robel García), homers (tied for 1st with Max Boldt and Gianison Boekhoudt) and total bases (12, tied for 2nd, 2 behind García). He returned to Canada and hit over .300 in 2018 and 2019 in the Ligue de Baseball Majeur de Quebec. [4] Having obtained French citizenship at some point, he played for France in the 2019 European Championship. He started the opener against Italy at 1B but struck out against Alessandro Maestri in his first at-bat and was 0 for 4 with 3 whiffs on the day, handling five putouts. In the 9th inning, he moved to the mound, relieving Antoine Rault with a 13-2 deficit, two on and no outs. He threw a wild pitch but struck out Mattia Reginato. Aldo Koutsoyanopulos hit a two-run double and Fromental-Houle walked Drew Maggi] and Alessandro Vaglio. Chris Colabello hit a sacrifice fly then the righty got Giuseppe Mazzanti on a pop-up. After the opener, France turned to Mael Zan to man first. Fromental-Houle got into two more games. Pinch-hitting for DH Leonel Cespedes against Austria, he struck out against Tobias Kiefer late in a 12-6 win. In a 23-0, 4 1/2 inning mercy rule romp of Croatia, he batted for Jacques Boucheron, drew a walk from Nino Kruhek and came around to score. He later popped up against Ante Ćurković. He handled 3 putouts at 1B. [5]
