Biographical Information[edit]
Eun-seong Chae has played in the KBO.
Chae was undrafted in 2009, and the LG Twins signed him. He spent his first five seasons in the KBO minor league, and he hit .292 with 9 homers in 2013.[1] Thus, he won a spot as the 4th outfielder in 2014. Chae hit .277/.385/.377 in 62 games in 2014, then slumped to .249/.318/.405 in 2015. He bounced back in 2016, hitting .313/.365/.444 with 9 homers and also attended the KBO All-Star Game. However, Chae couldn't extended his solid batting, and he had his worst season in 2017. He only hit .267/.323/.339 with 2 homers.
The Suncheon native broke out in 2018, and he hit .331/.379/.548 with 25 homers. His 119 RBI set the Twins team record, and he ranked 4th in RBI (13 behind Jae-hwan Kim), 7th in doubles (11 behind Jared Hoying) and 7th in hits (15 behind Jun-woo Jeon). His batting line was .315/.358/.434 in 2019, and he blasted 12 homers. Chae repeated his performance, hitting .293/.351/.452 in 2020 and .277/.359/.452 in 2021. When Hae-min Park joined the Twins, Chae was turned into a first baseman, and he hit .296/.354/.437 in 2022. He was 6-for-15 in the playoff, but the Twins were eliminated by the Kiwoom Heroes in 4 games.
After the 2022 season, Chae announced that he would become a free agent, and the Hanwha Eagles signed him with a 6-year, 9-billion-won contract; Ho-sol Yoon was selected as compensation. In the 2023 KBO All-Star Game, Chae was 2-for-3 with a grand slam against Seung-min Koo to win the MVP. That was the second grand slam in KBO All-Star history, and the first was from Yong-hee Kim in the first KBO All-Star Game. Chae was also the first player to win home run derby champion and All-Star MVP in the same year. He hit .263/.351/.428 with 23 homers in the 2023 season.
