Eric McCray peaked at AA.

McCray was taken by the Texas Rangers in the 10th round of the 1988 amateur draft. He had a great pro debut that summer, going 3-2 with a 1.44 ERA for the GCL Rangers, allowing 39 hits in 56 1/3 innings. He was third in the Gulf Coast League in ERA behind fellow southpaws Garland Kiser and Eliezel Rosario. In 1989, he had a 7-7, 2.52 record for the Gastonia Rangers with 95 hits but 55 walks in 121 2/3 innings. He tied Everett Stephenson for second on the club in ERA, .11 behind Robb Nen and ahead of Darren Oliver. He tied Cunningham for 6th in the SAL in ERA, right behind Mark Clark.

In 1990, Eric peaked with the Tulsa Drillers, where he went 8-7 with a 4.21 ERA but walked 82 in 141 innings and threw 16 wild pitches. He led the Texas League in walks and tied Mike Remlinger for second in wild pitches. The southpaw split 1991 between Tulsa (4-3, 4.65, 32 BB in 40 2/3 IP) and the Charlotte Rangers (0-1, 5.79, 6 BB in 9 1/3 IP), moving to relief but still battling major control problems. He was down with the GCL Rangers for two games in 1992 (3 IP, 0 H, 1 BB, 3 K) to end his time in the Texas system.

McCray was 2-3 with a 3.59 ERA for the 1994 Marshall Mallards and 2-3 with a 3.90 ERA for the 1996 Pine Bluff Locomotives, 7th in the Big South League in ERA.

Overall, Eric was 26-26 with a 3.40 ERA in 112 minor league games, walking 256 in 502 1/3 innings.
