Biographical Information

Catcher Eric Christopherson was selected by the Oakland A's in the 33rd round of the 1987 amateur draft, but decided to go to college. After his junior year, he was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the first round of the 1990 amateur draft (19th overall), but his career peaked out at the AAA level. His cousin Gary Christopherson also played in the minors.

The Giants sent Christopherson to the Northwest League to begin his career in 1990 with the Everett Giants. He showed a good eye at the plate with a .265/~.383/.346 line with 31 BB and 29 SO and was named the #9 prospect in the league. Moving up to the Clinton Giants in 1991, Christopherson showed a similar eye with a .270/~.390/.365 line and a 68/53 BB/SO ratio. He was named the catcher on the Midwest League all-star team and the #2 prospect in the league. Jumping past High-A ball, Christopherson went to the Shreveport Captains in 1992, and hit .252/~.342/.363, seeing his walks drop (37/44 BB/SO) and getting into only 80 games. 1993 saw Christopherson play only 15 games with Shreveport (.152/~.291/.196) and 8 games with the AZL Giants (.409/~.581/.545). Christopherson was selected by the Seattle Mariners in the 1993 Rule V Draft, but was returned to the Giants and was back in Shreveport in 1994, showing a little more power (22 2B) with a .251/~.353/.401 line. 1995 saw Christopherson reach the AAA level with the Phoenix Firebirds. In 282 AB, he hit only .220/~.306/.270.

In 1996, Christopherson found himself in the Houston Astros chain, with the AAA Tucson Toros. In 67 games, he hit .287/.352/.462 with 21 BB against 47 SO. The Astros sent him to the New Orleans Zephyrs to start 1997, then to the Texas Rangers organization after only 9 games (.190/.320/.190). Going back down to AA, Christopherson hit .244/.375/.463 for the Tulsa Drillers with 25 BB and 22 SO in 39 games.

In 1998, Christopherson's travels continued, this time with the Norfolk Tides in the New York Mets' chain. Hitting only .186/~.318/.278, he was moved to the Chicago White Sox Calgary Cannons affiliate where he hit very well in 21 games (.352/.429/.704).

Returning to the White Sox in 1999, this time with the Charlotte Knights, Christopherson finished his career with a .314/.411/.452 line in 63 games at age 30.
