Biographical Information[edit]

Emilio Palomino was a two-time Cuban Winter League batting champion.

Palomino debuted in 1901 with San Francisco, then played for Almendares in 1902. In 1903, he was 5 for 18 with a double and a triple as a backup outfielder for San Francisco. He played in the US in 1904, hitting .118 as an outfielder for the All-Cubans in the Negro Leagues. He remained with the team in 1905. He hit .270/?/.313 for Almendares when they won the title in 1905. In 1906, he moved to Club Fe and they also won the pennant. He was just 3 for 21 at the plate and 1-0 on the mound, not a major aid to their success. He hit .254 and slugged .297 for Almendares in 1907, going 2-0 on the mound and helping them win it all. He led the league with 118 at-bats.

Emilio had his first big year in 1908, hitting .350 to pace the circuit. He won his fourth straight pennant, this time with Almendares. He was 0-1 on the mound and slugged .395. He tied Pete Hill for the league lead with 53 runs in 42 games. He was 0 for 7 against the 1908 Cincinnati Reds. He continued his title-winning ways with Habana in 1909, batting .292/?/.331. He was 0 for 4 for Fe in 1910 and went 4 for 29 against the Detroit Tigers and Philadelphia Athletics in 1910, to finish his career with a .111 average against white MLB teams.

Palomino hit .213 and slugged .250 for Almendares in 1910-1911, yet won his sixth CWL championship. With Almendares in 1912, he went 22 for 50 with a double to take the batting title by 30 points over Home Run Johnson. He easily outhit outfield mate Matty McIntyre's .282. Palomino ended his career with Almendares in '13, hitting .243/?/.279. In 1957, he was inducted into the Cuban Baseball Hall of Fame.
